Eritrea

Eritrea's capital, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptionally intact Italian colonial and Art Deco urban fabric at 2,300 m altitude in the Horn of Africa.

A chain of over 200 coral islands in the Red Sea off Eritrea, famous for diving, snorkelling and relatively pristine reefs, with a small permanent fishing population on Dahlak Kebir.

One of the lowest, hottest and most alien landscapes on Earth, straddling the Eritrea–Ethiopia border at approximately 100–125 metres below sea level, centred on the volcanic crater of Dallol with its acid pools, salt flats and vivid mineral deposits.

An ancient pre-Axumite archaeological site in Eritrea's southern highlands, featuring ruined temples, stelae fields and underground burial chambers set on a plateau at approximately 2,200 metres altitude.
