North Macedonia

The ruins of a Roman and early Byzantine city at the confluence of the Vardar and Crna Rivers, Stobi was Macedonia's second-largest city in antiquity and is now one of the most important archaeological sites in the Balkans.

One of Europe's oldest and deepest lakes, shared with Albania, surrounded by the town of Ohrid — a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose churches, Byzantine chapels and lakeside promenade have drawn visitors since the early medieval period.

A protected river canyon about 5 km west of central Skopje, famous for its medieval monasteries tucked into the cliff face, a hydroelectric dam at the upstream end, and Vrelo Cave — one of the deepest underwater caves in the world.

A 15th-century Ottoman stone arch bridge spanning the Vardar in Skopje, connecting the historic Old Bazaar with Macedonia Square — the city's most enduring symbol.

The largest and most productive wine-producing region in North Macedonia, centred on the Tikveš valley and lake, responsible for the vast majority of the country's wine output and increasingly recognised for quality-driven producers working with indigenous grape varieties.
