Robertsport sits at the northwestern coast of Liberia where the Atlantic meets Cape Mount, the largest remaining coastal mangrove forest in West Africa. The town faces directly onto the ocean with a natural harbour formed by a ridge of rock, its streets a simple grid of sand and laterite flanked by mango and coconut palms. Robertsport has developed a reputation as the surf destination in West Africa, known for a consistent reef break that works in the dry season from November to March. The wave is a right and left break over reef, suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers, and the season brings consistent swells from the Atlantic with winds that are generally workable. December through February tend to offer the most reliable conditions. A small but growing number of surf camps have established in Robertsport, catering to both visiting surfers and the small but active expat community that has arrived in recent years.

The town itself remains genuinely local: a working fishing community where wooden pirogues are hauled onto the beach each morning and dried fish traded in the market. There is no large hotel, no tourist strip, no heritage museum. The surf scene is small and still finding its footing. But the ocean setting is real — not constructed for visitors — and the coast to the north and south offers long stretches of beach and mangrove that feel entirely unexploited.

For non-surfers, Robertsport offers beach walks along the Atlantic coast, birdwatching in the nearby Cape Mount mangroves, and the simple pleasure of a quiet coastal West African town with genuine local character. The surf is the main draw, and in season it is good enough that word has begun to spread beyond the region.

The town has a small market where dried fish and agricultural produce are traded, and the harbour handles pirogues and small boats rather than commercial vessels. The pace of life is determined by the fishing calendar and the seasonal surf, not by tourism. A small expat community has settled in Robertsport over the past decade, drawn by the surf and the relative safety of the area compared to other parts of Liberia. The combination of a working fishing harbour, a growing surf scene, and direct Atlantic exposure makes Robertsport one of the more distinctive small coastal towns in West Africa.
