The Baths

The Baths begin at the top of the beach on the southern shore of Virgin Gorda, where enormous granite boulders heave out of the sand in loose groups that leave sheltered tidal pools and narrow sea caves between them. The boulders are smooth and rounded, some the size of houses, and they continue through the shallow water and into the sea, creating a maze of rock that is fun to explore. The setting is tropical and dramatic at the same time, the turquoise Caribbean on one side and the dark granite boulders on the other. Devils Bay Beach is just beyond The Baths, accessible by boat or by a short trail over the boulders from the main beach area. The water is clearer and calmer than at The Baths, and there are usually fewer people. The trail over the boulders requires some care as the surfaces are uneven and the gaps between the rocks can be tight, but the effort is rewarded with a beach that feels more isolated and a bit wild. The rocks that line the shore at Devils Bay are the same granite as at The Baths, and the sea stacks that rise from the water offshore complete the distinctive landscape.
