Why it stays with you

West Lake is not one viewpoint. Its character comes from moving between open water, shaded causeways, low hills and fragments of city life that keep appearing at the edge.

Walk rather than trying to collect every named scene. Early light, a boat crossing the frame or rain softening the far shore often matters more than completing a checklist.
